A dramatic twist has emerged in one of Europe’s most closely watched criminal investigations after a Ukrainian woman suspected of orchestrating the recent bomb attack in Monaco was found dead near Kyiv. Authorities say the woman, identified as Anastasiia Berezovska, had been the subject of an international search after prosecutors in Monaco accused her of planting an explosive device that seriously injured Ukrainian-born businessman Vadym Yermolaiev, his partner, and his son.
Her death has transformed what was already an international criminal investigation into an even more complex case involving multiple countries, intelligence agencies, organized crime allegations, and questions about who may have planned the attack.
The discovery of her body, along with the arrest of two men—including a serving Ukrainian military intelligence officer—has intensified scrutiny over the investigation and raised fresh questions about whether the bombing was part of a broader criminal conspiracy or a targeted assassination attempt. Ukrainian authorities say the intelligence officer claimed he acted without authorization, though investigators continue examining the circumstances.
A Bomb Attack That Shocked Monaco
Monaco is widely regarded as one of the safest places in Europe. The wealthy principality is known for luxury tourism, Formula One racing, and being home to business leaders and high-net-worth individuals from around the world.
That reputation was shaken when an explosion seriously injured businessman Vadym Yermolaiev, his partner, and his teenage son. Authorities later alleged that the explosive device had been deliberately planted and described the incident as an attempted murder rather than a random act of violence.
Investigators quickly launched an international manhunt after surveillance footage and forensic evidence allegedly pointed toward Berezovska as a key suspect.
According to Monaco prosecutors, she allegedly disguised herself as a man during parts of the operation before fleeing across several European countries after the bombing. Authorities believe she did not act alone and that others assisted with planning, logistics, and her escape.
The Discovery Near Kyiv
Days after an Interpol Red Notice was issued seeking her arrest, Ukrainian investigators located Berezovska’s body near Kyiv.
Officials reported that she had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head. Ammunition was reportedly recovered near the scene, immediately shifting attention from the bombing investigation to a possible murder designed to silence a key suspect.
The timing of her death has become one of the biggest mysteries in the case.
