The quiet village of Mokondo in Emurua Dikirr was transformed into a sea of grief on Sunday, March 1, 2026, as thousands of constituents, local leaders, and relatives gathered at the home of their late Member of Parliament, Hon. Johana Ng’eno.

The veteran legislator, known for his fiery oratory and unwavering defense of his people, was killed alongside five others in a horrific helicopter crash on Saturday afternoon in the Chepkiep area of Mosop, Nandi County.

The Final Journey: From the Mara to the Skies

Hours before the tragedy, Hon. Ng’eno had been active in his constituency, visiting families in Mara Rianta whose children had been tragically swept away by the Mara River earlier in the week. Witnesses say he was in high spirits, fulfilling his duty as a “servant leader” before boarding the ill-fated chopper destined for a function in Endebess.

At approximately 4:45 PM, the helicopter reportedly hit a group of trees and burst into flames in a densely forested area of Nandi North. There were no survivors.

Constituents in Mourning

By daybreak on Sunday, the road to the MP’s home was packed with vehicles and mourners on foot. For the people of Emurua Dikirr, Ng’eno was more than a politician; he was a “fearless warrior” who had represented them since 2013.

A Three-Term Legacy: Ng’eno was one of the few legislators to have been elected three times under different political parties, a testament to his deep personal connection with the electorate.

Champion of Education: Residents spoke tearfully of his NG-CDF projects, particularly the school buses he provided to almost every secondary school in the region.

National Leaders React

The National Assembly has been plunged into mourning. Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has already appointed a parliamentary team to coordinate with the family for funeral arrangements.

“Hon. Ng’eno was a firm, courageous, and dedicated leader. A true benevolent modern warrior whose voice will be missed in the halls of Parliament,” stated Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro in a tribute shared by many.

Official Funeral Preparations

As of Sunday evening, the bodies of the victims have been moved to Eldoret pending transfer to Nairobi for post-mortem examinations.

State Support: The government has signaled it will provide full support to the families of all six victims.

Condolence Books: These are expected to be opened at Parliament Buildings and the Narok County Governor’s office starting Monday.

The “Life and Times” of a Maverick

Born into humble beginnings in 1972, Johana Ng’eno’s rise to the top of Kenyan politics was a classic “grass-to-grace” story. A lawyer by profession and a recently admitted Advocate of the High Court, his loss leaves a massive vacuum in the leadership of the Kipsigis community and Narok County at large.
