The political temperature in Kenya has hit a boiling point this week as the Linda Mwananchi brigade, a prominent political faction, issued a stern ultimatum to the Ministry of Interior. Led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, the group is calling for the immediate resignation and arrest of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, accusing him of presiding over a “culture of state-sponsored goonism.”

The Spark: The Attack on Senator Godfrey Osotsi

The latest wave of outrage follows a violent confrontation in Kisumu that left Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi hospitalized. According to leaders of the brigade, Osotsi was targeted by armed goons during a political gathering, an incident they claim was not a random act of crime but a coordinated hit.

Speaking outside Karen Hospital on April 11, 2026, moments after Osotsi was discharged, Senator Sifuna was blunt:

“We are giving PS Raymond Omollo exactly 14 days to resign. If he does not leave office, we will move to have him held personally accountable for the blood of our colleagues. You cannot use state resources to facilitate militia groups to silence dissent.”

A Growing Trend of “Goon Culture”

The Linda Mwananchi brigade—which has recently hinted at forming a new political party separate from mainstream ODM factions—alleges that “goon attacks” have spiked across the country since the beginning of 2026.

Key incidents cited by the group include:

The Kakamega Caravan Ambush: Earlier in February, vehicles belonging to the Linda Mwananchi movement were stoned during a rally.

The Riat Attack: An assault on a political convoy where several supporters sustained serious injuries.

The Kitengela Incident: A similar disruption currently under investigation by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

The Government’s Silence vs. Public Outcry

While the Ministry of Interior has yet to issue a formal rebuttal to the brigade’s specific allegations against PS Omollo, the “goon culture” has become a national talking point. On April 13, major news outlets like Citizen TV dedicated segments to the “Politics of Goonism,” highlighting how hired militias are increasingly being used to disrupt rallies and intimidate opposition figures.
