In a striking demonstration of “Broad-Based Government” in action, President William Ruto and the new Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader, Senator Oburu Oginga, shared a pulpit in Dandora, Nairobi, this Sunday, February 1, 2026.

The visit, which included a joint donation of KSh 3 million, has been hailed by supporters as a new dawn for national unity, while critics view it as the formal start of a formidable 2027 political machine.

The Dandora Declaration: Ruto and Oburu Oginga Cement the 2027 “Broad-Based” Alliance

The atmosphere at St. Peter’s Enocha Legio Maria Mission was electric as the Head of State arrived accompanied by the elder Oginga. This marks one of the most significant public appearances by the two leaders since Oburu Oginga was formally installed as the ODM Party Leader following the death of his brother, Raila Odinga, in late 2025.

With a simple phrase—”Iko kwa bank tayari” (It’s already in the bank)—President Ruto signaled that the era of “pledges” is being replaced by immediate, structured financial cooperation between the former rival factions.

1. “No Debts Here”: The KSh 3 Million Assurance

President Ruto’s address was punctuated by a clear attempt to distance his administration from the “harambee controversy” that dogged his first term.

The Payment: By declaring the KSh 3 million donation “already banked,” Ruto aimed to show that his church contributions are now part of a transparent, pre-arranged development agenda rather than ad-hoc cash gifts.

The Partnership: He noted that the donation was a joint effort with “his brother” Oburu, emphasizing that the government and the opposition are now “reading from the same script” regarding community development.

2. Gladys Wanga’s Nairobi Sweep Prediction

While the President spoke of unity, the political subtext was provided by ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga. In a bold declaration that set social media on fire, the Homa Bay Governor claimed that the UDA-ODM partnership would be unstoppable in the capital.

The 2027 Vision: Wanga predicted that ODM would capture every elective seat in Nairobi—from MCAs to the Governor’s office—while exclusively supporting William Ruto for the Presidency under the “Broad-Based” banner.

The “Cow” Analogy: Wanga famously remarked that Oburu Oginga and Ruto would “split the cow in the middle,” ensuring a 50/50 stake in the national leadership for the two parties post-2027.

3. Oburu Oginga: The New Kingmaker?

Senator Oburu Oginga’s transition from a behind-the-scenes family advisor to the leader of Kenya’s largest opposition party has been swift.

The Stabilizer: His presence in Dandora was seen as a move to stabilize ODM’s Nairobi base, which has seen minor squabbles since the leadership transition.

The Strategy: Oburu reiterated that while ODM is currently “in government” through the Cabinet secretaries appointed in 2024, the path to 2027 will involve “formal, structured negotiations” to ensure the party isn’t just a passenger, but a co-pilot of the Ruto administration.
