In a statement that questions the very integrity of the government’s operations, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that opposition leader Raila Odinga has loyalists embedded within the civil service who are actively working against the state. Gachagua described these groups as “two parallel teams” run by Odinga to undermine the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The DP further used the term “real watermelon” to accuse Odinga of political hypocrisy, suggesting his influence extends covertly into the government. For the ordinary Kenyan, these allegations raise serious concerns about the effectiveness and unity of the very institutions tasked with delivering services. If true, it points to a system where civil servants’ loyalty is divided, potentially hindering development projects and the implementation of public policy.

This public airing of what many have whispered about in political circles places a spotlight on the challenges of a polarized civil service. It forces citizens to ask: who is really running the government, and can it function effectively if, as the DP claims, it is host to “parallel teams” with conflicting agendas?
