Our Children Are Not Safe: Kasarani Demands Action After Teen Stabbing

The blood of a young Grade 9 student, spilled on our streets in a senseless stabbing, is a stain on our collective conscience. This is not just another crime statistic; it is a direct attack on our community’s future and a glaring failure to protect our most vulnerable.

The incident, which occurred as the boy waited for a school bus, has ignited long-simmering anger among Kasarani residents. For too long, we have endured a rising tide of muggings and violence, often met with inaction. This must be the final straw.

A Community at a Crossroads

“We are tired of living in fear. Our children should be able to wait for a bus without fearing for their lives,” a local resident and parent fumed. “Where are the police patrols? Where is the security we were promised?”

This question echoes through the estates of Kasarani. The perpetrators of this heinous act are likely still walking among us, a thought that fills every parent with dread.

Time for Tangible Solutions, Not Empty Promises

As a community, we must move beyond outrage and demand concrete solutions. The Kasarani Voice calls for:

  • Immediate Deployment: Increased and visible police foot and mobile patrols around all school zones during peak hours.

  • Community Policing: Revitalize and properly fund community policing initiatives (Nyumba Kumi) to foster better intelligence sharing between residents and law enforcement.

  • Infrastructure Audit: The county government must install functional street lights and clear overgrown bushes around bus stops that provide cover for criminals.

  • Leadership Accountability: Our local MCA and MP must prioritize security and allocate Constituency Development Fund (CDF) resources towards tangible safety projects, including CCTV cameras in crime hotspots.

This is our home. It is time we reclaim it. Let us unite, speak with one voice, and ensure that no more of our children are victimized on their way to seek an education. #SecureKasarani
