‘DJ Hakuna?’ ODM Unveils New Deck Masters After DJ Spider Defects to Sifuna’s Faction

In the world of Kenyan politics, music isn’t just entertainment—it’s the pulse of the rally. For nearly a decade, DJ Spider was the man behind the decks for the Orange Democratic Movement, providing the soundtrack for Raila Odinga’s most iconic moments.

However, as of late February 2026, the “Orange” has officially split, and DJ Spider has picked a side.

The “DJ Hakuna” Moment

The drama reached a boiling point last week during an ODM event in Suba South. Party leader Oburu Oginga, ready to bust a move, looked around for the music only to find silence. His confused query, “DJ hakuna?” (Is there no DJ?), quickly went viral on TikTok, with many mocking the party for being “technically out of tune” without their veteran entertainer.

The Defection: “100% Sifunated”

While the mainstream party searched for their speakers, DJ Spider was already busy in Busia with the “Linda Mwananchi” faction. This splinter group—led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino—has been increasingly critical of the party’s central leadership.

In an exclusive interview on February 27, DJ Spider confirmed his new allegiance:

“I’m fully affiliated with the Linda Mwananchi team. I’m 100% Sifunated! I hadn’t played at the ‘Linda Ground’ rallies for a long time anyway.”

The New Lineup: DJ Ibra and DJ Pinto Cahil

To counter the narrative that the party is “silent,” acting Secretary General Catherine Omanyo took to social media to prove that the music hasn’t stopped. Sharing photos of the party’s new entertainment unit, she simply captioned it: “Tuko na DJ” (We have a DJ).

The new deck masters tasked with energizing the “Linda Ground” (Oburu-Wanga) faction are:

DJ Ibra

DJ Pinto Cahil

The reception, however, has been mixed. While some supporters welcomed the fresh blood, others on X (formerly Twitter) mocked the pair as “rookies,” with one user commenting, “We want Baba’s DJ, not these disco matanga newcomers.”

The Bigger Picture: A Party Divided

This “DJ War” is a loud symptom of a deeper fracture. The party is currently split between:

The Linda Ground Faction: Led by Oburu Oginga and Gladys Wanga, who support the “Broad-based” government and cooperation with the Ruto administration.

The Linda Mwananchi Faction: Led by Sifuna and Orengo, who maintain a more combative opposition stance.

As Edwin Sifuna fights his removal as Secretary General in the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, the battle for the hearts, minds, and ears of ODM supporters continues.
