When Mary Wanjiku, a 23-year-old from Kiambu, first heard that her local polytechnic was partnering with German institutions to train and employ Kenyan youth, she thought it was too good to be true.

“I’ve always dreamed of working abroad but didn’t know where to start,” she said. “Now, it finally feels possible.”

Mary is among hundreds of young Kenyans applying for the Kiambu National Polytechnic–Germany Training and Jobs Program, a new initiative bridging local skills with global opportunities.

✈️ Training Kenyan Youth for the Global Job Market

The program, launched by Kiambu National Polytechnic, aims to provide Kenyan youths aged 18 to 35 with world-class technical training before connecting them to paid internships and jobs in Germany.

Courses under the program include:

  • Mechatronics & Engineering

  • Nursing & Healthcare

  • Information Technology

  • Automotive Mechanics

  • Hospitality & Culinary Arts

  • Plumbing and Electrical Works

Before departure, participants undergo German language training and cultural orientation to prepare for life and work in Europe.

“We want to ensure our graduates can adapt easily and excel internationally,” said a Kiambu Polytechnic official.

💡 A Pathway to Global Success

The partnership with German institutions not only helps fight youth unemployment but also enhances Kenya’s reputation as a hub for skilled talent.

Graduates of the program will receive globally recognized certifications, opening doors to future careers across Europe.

For many, it’s more than just a job opportunity — it’s a chance to transform their families’ lives.

“My goal is to gain skills in Germany and come back to start my own business in Kenya,” Mary shared.

🏫 Kiambu Polytechnic Leading the Way

Kiambu National Polytechnic has earned praise for its commitment to empowering youth through TVET programs that combine education, technology, and real-world experience.

By partnering with global industries, the institution is helping bridge Kenya’s skills gap while providing practical solutions to unemployment.

“We’re not just training students; we’re preparing global citizens,” said the Polytechnic Principal during the program’s launch.
